WINTER PARK, Fla. –The University of New Orleans men's tennis team dropped its third in a row, falling 5-1 to No. 3 ranked Barry on Sunday afternoon, but not without a marquee victory.
For the second straight outing, the UNO (7-5) result was highlighted with a win by
Hossam Meligy and
Ricardo Campos over a nationally-ranked doubles' tandem. Less than 24 hours after defeating a No. 8 pairing from Saint Leo, the Privateer duo triumphed 8-6 over No. 14 Marco Mokrzycki and Leo Vivas.
The victory for Campos and Meligy improved their mark to 10-2 on the season with nine wins in their last 10 appearances on the court. The win at the No. 1 doubles' position was the lone one on the day for UNO against Barry (16-3).
The Buccaneers claimed the remaining two doubles' matches by 8-2 and 8-1 scores.
In the three singles' matches that were completed, Barry won in straight sets. The Buccaneers also led in the second set of the three matches that were left unfinished when the dual was clinched.
The Privateers will now join their female counterparts for a match at 2 p.m. on Monday against Eckerd College. The Tritons entered Sunday with a 0-13 record with the Lady Tritons owning a 3-11 record.
