UNO (12-15) has dropped their last three, equaling the longest losing streak of the season. The Privateers last played in an 11-1 loss to Mobile on Tuesday before having a scheduled doubleheader at Tougaloo called due to inclement weather.
This season, UNO has had their most success when taking a lead into the late innings of a game.
The Privateers are 11-0 when in the driver's seat after the sixth inning and
Kyle Blancaneaux's four saves are the most for a relief pitcher on the Lakefront since David Burch had nine in 2009.
Cameron Glendinning has two saves while
Garrett Manning,
Alex Smith and
Cory Myers have a save apiece.
Likely UNO starters for the weekend include
Stone Speer (3-3, 4.87 ERA) and
Jake Fabre (3-5, 5.91).
Christian Cale (3-1, 4.50) is also a frequent starter for the Privateers.
Cameron Wheeless is the top hitter on the UNO roster with a .330 batting average.
Blake LeBlanc and
Zach Pohto have been consistent hitters for the Privateers, carrying seven and six-game hitting streaks into the weekend, respectively. LeBlanc has produced back-to-back games with multiple hits.
The visiting UWA owns a 16-16 mark this season with an 11-5 record at home compared to 5-11 on the road. The Tigers has won five of their last seven games and claimed their two most recent weekend series.
Head coach Gary Rundles will likely start Barry Meeks (4-3, 3.44 ERA), Jessie Boyd (5-4, 4.43) and Nick Bolleter (2-2, 4.50). At the plate, UWA is led by Micah Reaves (.355 BA, 23 RBIs) and D.J. Turo (.352 BA, 23 RBIs).
The three-game series is the first meeting between the Privateers and Tigers.
Following this weekend's action, UNO will remain home for a Tuesday contest at 6:30 p.m. against McNeese State before venturing to William Carey for a 6:30 p.m. game on Wednesday.
