FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The New Orleans Privateer baseball team will begin a string of 13 straight games on the road as they visit No. 3 ranked Arkansas for a two-game mid-week series.
Both Tuesday and Wednesday's contests will have live stats and video available through the ArkansasRazorbacks.com web site. First pitch each day is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
UNO (0-3) dropped all three games of its season-opening series against Southeast Missouri State over the weekend. The three contests were held at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
Against SEMO, head coach Bruce Peddie's squad received solid production from
Chaz Boyer, amongst others.
A freshman on this year's roster, Boyer hit 4-for-13 for a.308 batting average that included a pair of runs and a triple. Boyer's lead-off home run on Saturday provided the Privateers with their lone run in the contest and the Carencro, La. native has stolen bases in each of the first three games.
Other top hitters after the opening series with at least five at-bats include
Zach Liberto (3-for-6),
Brian Dixon (3-for-9) and
Zach Pohto (2-for-6).
Andre Damiens also was productive, collecting three hits in three at-bats in Sunday's game.
Peddie intends to throw right-handed freshman
Daniel Martinez (0-0, 9.00 ERA) in Tuesday's game with left-handed
Stone Speer (0-0, 4.50 ERA) to follow on Wednesday. Martinez threw one inning in his debut on Saturday out of the bullpen while Speer struck out seven while allowing three earned runs in six innings of work in Friday's opener.
Arkansas (2-1) enters the mid-week series after winning 2 of 3 against Western Illinois. The Razorbacks were ranked No. 1 in the country heading into the opening series in three of the major polls before slipping to No. 3 in the Baseball America rankings released Monday.
This year's Arkansas squad features 17 returning letterwinners from a 2012 team which reached the College World Series. Left-handed freshman Colin Poche will make his collegiate debut on Tuesday with right-handed Trey Killian (0-0, 0.00 ERA) getting the nod on Wednesday. The top ranked prospect in the state of Arkansas last year, Killian threw three no-hit innings over the weekend in his own debut.
The Razorbacks' top hitters after the opening series include Brian Anderson (.545 BA, 3 R, 4 RBI) and Tyler Spoon (.500 BA, 3 R, 3 RBI). Arkansas hit .306 as a team against WIU, outscoring the Leathernecks 21-10.
UNO leads the all-time series 2-0 against the Razorbacks, picking up a 3-2 win in Shreveport, La. on Mar. 15, 1991 and a 13-6 victory at Maestri Field on Mar. 1, 1998.
Following the mid-week series, the Privateers will visit former Sun Belt Conference rival South Alabama for three games, beginning on Friday.
