MOBILE, Ala. –South Alabama picked up a pair of wins on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader against New Orleans at Stanky Field.
USA (7-0) won the opening game 4-1 before a come-from-behind 5-2 victory over UNO (0-8) in the second game. Sunday's doubleheader was the result of inclement weather on Saturday.

The Privateer will resume their season on Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Tulane at Turchin Stadium. The contest was moved up from its originally announced 6:30 p.m. start by the host institution due to a conflict with a Green Wave basketball game that same night.
SOUTH ALABAMA 4-1 NEW ORLEANS (GAME 1)
A two-run blast by Dustin Dalken in the second inning held up for USA in a 4-1 opening contest victory.
A designated hitter, Dalken's blast over the right field wall was the first home run for the Jaguars this season. Dalken added an RBI double in the fourth inning and finished 3-for-3 in the contest.
Privateer starting pitcher
Alex Smith (0-2) was tagged with all three runs that Dalken was responsible for. Smith allowed a fourth earned run in the eighth, finishing his day yielding seven hits over eight innings.
Jacob Noble (2-0) was the winning pitcher for USA. Noble held the Privateers to a single run over six innings on the mound, striking out a career-high eight. Brandon Boyle pitched the final three innings for the save.
Zacary Hawkins led UNO with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate. Hawkins' sixth inning single brought home
Chaz Boyer, who doubled to lead the inning. The tally by the Privateers ended a string off 11 shutout innings in a row for Noble through two starts.
SOUTH ALABAMA 5-2 NEW ORLEANS (GAME 2)
USA rallied from a 2-1 deficit by scoring three runs in the fifth inning en route to a 5-2 victory in the second contest.
The Jaguars tallied four hits in the fifth inning, ending the day for UNO starting pitcher
Blake Prest (0-2). Prest allowed the four runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings on the mound after entering the frame with a lead.
USA added to their total by scoring a single run in the sixth before preventing the Privateers from taking advantage of a bases loaded situation in the eighth. Kyle Bartsch recorded the final out of the eighth to escape the jam and then retired UNO in the ninth. The Privateers left 11 runners stranded in the contest.
Prior to the Jaguars' rally, UNO plated a run apiece in the first and fifth innings while the hosts scored their first run in the fourth.
In the opening inning,
Zach Pohto, Hawkins and
Brian Dixon produced consecutive singles before
Reese Kanter grounded to first, scoring Pohto. In the fifth inning, Hawkins collected his sixth hit in six at-bats to score Boyer, who doubled to lead off the frame.
Hawkins ended up 3-for-5 in the contest while
Jonathan Coco picked up two hits in four at-bats.
Dylan Stamey (1-0) was the winning pitcher in the contest. Stamey did not yield a hit in 2.1 innings after relieving starter Tripp Cecil in the fifth inning.
The top two hitters in the USA lineup combined to account for five of the Jaguars' nine hits. Cole Billingsley was 3-for-4 at the leadoff spot while Bud Collura went 2-for-4 batting right behind him.

Zacary Hawkins became the fourth different Privateer to tally at least three hits in a game this season following his 3-for-3 showing in Sunday's first game. He added three more hits to his count in the second game and joins teammates

By throwing back-to-back games of at least seven innings,
Alex Smith became the first UNO starting pitcher since Tyler Sanders to throw consecutive games with at least seven innings. Sanders accomplished his feat by throwing seven innings against LSU on May 17, 2011 and eight more against North Florida on May 21, 2011. The outings were the final appearances of Sanders' career.
