NEW ORLEANS – A four-run second inning erased a 3-0 deficit as Tulane came from behind to defeat New Orleans 5-3 at Turchin Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the second, TU (4-5) plated four runs on two hits while taking advantage of an error and a balk to move ahead 4-3. The Green Wave had five hits in the contest, their third time this season being held to five hits or less.

The only other TU score came in the seventh inning with the hosts not needing a hit to plate the run.

Prior to the Green Wave rally, UNO (0-9) had jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second.

The frame included a two-run blast by Morgan Barger with the Privateers tacking on another score when a Zach Pohto sacrifice fly plated Zach Liberto. Barger, Pohto and Reese Kanter had matching 2-for-4 outings to lead UNO.

The Privateers had the tying run on the bases in the eighth as Brian Dixon and Kanter singled to the lead inning. A Jonathan Coco sacrifice bunt moved the runners over before TU relief pitcher Kyle McKenzie picked up the final two outs with a pair of strikeouts.

Brady Wilson (1-0) was the winning pitcher for the Green Wave after holding the Privateers off the scoreboard for 2.2 innings and allowing just four hits.

Wilson relieved starting pitcher Daniel Rankin, who conceded all three UNO scores in his 1.1 innings on the mound, an appearance that included three walks. Andrew Garner picked up his second save of the season by holding the Privateers without a hit in the ninth.

Stone Speer dropped to 0-2 for UNO after allowing four runs – two earned – on four hits while striking out three. Alex Smith threw a scoreless sixth inning for the Privateers, his appearance out of the bullpen this season.

The Privateers will head to Conway, Ark. for three-games on the campus of future Southland Conference rival Central Arkansas over the weekend. UNO will face UCA on Friday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. while challenging Wichita State on Saturday at 12 p.m.
