NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans freshman Chaz Boyer produced an RBI double in the seventh inning to break a scoreless tie and lift the Privateers to a 1-0 victory over Jackson State at Wesley Barrow Stadium on Tuesday night.

Tuesday's result was the third home victory in a row for UNO (5-26). The squad was returning to Barrow Stadium following 13 straight contests on the road.

In the seventh inning, Morgan Barger reached base with a single out after drawing a full count walk from JSU (15-15) starter Aneko Knowles (1-2). Barger was lifted for Daniel Perkins, who stole second base. Perkins moved over to third on a Brian Dixon batted ball before coming home on Boyer's double.

The run held up as Privateer head coach Bruce Peddie received solid pitching from the first pitch. UNO starter Daniel Martinez threw a career-high matching five scoreless innings, allowing three hits. Alex Smith (1-6) followed out of the bullpen by yielding just one hit during three innings of work.

Stone Speer completed the shutout for the Privateers with his second save of the campaign. Speer retired the side in the ninth for UNO, recording each of his outs via strikeouts.

Zach Liberto led the Privateers with a 2-for-4 outing. Boyer and Perkins were joined by Reese Kanter and Trevor McCarthy in accounting for the remainder of UNO's hits in the contest.

JSU received a pair of hits from Gabriel Babineayx in three at-bats. Gary Thomas and Bryce Taylor had the other hits for the Tigers, who were held to four hits in the contest. Knowles scattered five hits in 6.2 innings while striking out six as JSU's starting pitcher.

The Privateers will return to action next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. with a contest against Southern Miss at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
