Box Score UNO-LSUA Box Score
NEW ORLEANS – LSU-Alexandria gained a split of a weekend series with New Orleans, picking up a 5-4 win in 11 innings on Saturday afternoon at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
Trailing 3-1 entering the eighth inning, LSUA (36-18) plated three runs to take a 4-3 lead against UNO (7-39) relief pitcher
Kyle Blancaneaux. The Generals took advantage of a pair of walks and a hit batsman before Chance Schmidt lifted a three-run double to right center.
In their next trip to the plate, the Privateers were able to knot the contest. Privateer pinch runner
Tim Broussard scored on a same play wild pitch and error. Neither team scored over the next two innings before the Generals moved ahead in the 11
th.
A UNO error with one out in the final inning allowed LSUA to put runners on the corners.
A hit batsman loaded the bases with a Randy Fredrick sacrifice bringing home the go-ahead run against Privateer relief pitcher
Garrett Manning (0-3). Hunter Wallace earned his fourth save of the season by retiring UNO in order in the bottom of the 11
th.
Prior to the eighth, the momentum was in the Privateers' corner as
Cameron Keener went 3-for-5 in the contest. Keener's plate appearances included a second inning double during a three-run inning.
Keener was joined by
Morgan Barger and
Seth Laigast in producing doubles in the frame. A
Zach Liberto RBI single provided the final hit of four in the inning as UNO was provided a 3-1 lead in response to an opening inning score by LSUA.
Liberto was 3-for-4 in the contest and joined Barger's 2-for-5 showing to give the Privateers three hitters with at least two hits. UNO starter
Stone Speer allowed three hits in seven innings while striking out five. Speer has gone at least five innings in 8 of 10 starts this season.
The Generals tallied just four hits, taking advantage of five walks, two hit batsmen and a pair of Privateer errors. Dylan Edmiston scored three of the runs, going 1-for-1 and drawing four walks.
Though the results were not the desired ones, UNO was able to honor its seniors prior to first pitch.
“You have got to thank those seven kids for what they did for two, three years,” said Privateer head coach Bruce Peddie. “They have battled through and they have learned a lot. As a team, we have got to pick up our things and get ready to go to work on Monday in preparation for Wednesday.”
The schedule continues for UNO on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Tulane with a doubleheader in Summit, Miss. on the campus of Southwest Mississippi Community College slated for Thursday at 3 p.m. against Mississippi Valley State.
