NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans baseball team will head into spring semester final examinations following a trio of contests this week, starting on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Tulane at Turchin Stadium.

The week will continue for UNO (7-39) on Thursday at 3 p.m. with a doubleheader in Summit, Miss. against Mississippi Valley State. The contest on the campus of Southwest Mississippi Community College is the first of an at least two-year agreement between the three parties and is free to the public.

Wednesday's game will be broadcast on UNOPrivateers.com and joined in progress on WGSO 990 AM at 5:55 p.m.  Live video of the contest can also be accessed through TulaneGreenWave.com.

The Privateers enter the week after splitting a pair of games against LSU-Alexandria over the weekend at Barrow Stadium. Zach Liberto was the top UNO hitter during the series, collecting four hits in seven at-bats for a .571 batting average. The production over the weekend bolstered the infielder's totals to a team-best .279 batting average.

Jonathan Coco and Reese Kanter rank second and third on the UNO roster this season with batting averages of .277 and .263, respectively. Kanter had three multi-hit games during the month of April and with 10 to his credit, ranks second behind teammate Zacary Hawkins, who has 11.

The Privateers' Wednesday starter Alex Smith (3-7, 4.14 ERA) picked up a victory in the opening contest of this past weekend's series by allowing a single run over seven innings of work. Entering this week, Smith has thrown at least seven innings in seven of his 12 starts to date, including three of his last four.

TU (22-22) was slated to host Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday night before inclement weather cancelled the contest. Wednesday's contest is the fourth between the Green Wave and UNO this season.

TU claimed the 2013 First NBC Bank Cup after winning 2 of 3 previous encounters as part of an arrangement with First NBC that covers a best-of-three series. In the most recent contest, the Green Wave posted a 3-2 win on Apr. 17 at Turchin Stadium. RHP Andrew Reeves (1-0, 0.00 ERA) made his first start of the season on that day and will head to the mound once more against the Privateers on Wednesday.

TU is hitting .200 as a team against UNO this season with only Garrett Cannizaro (.364) and Sean Potkay (.300) hitting above .222 amongst the regulars. On the season, Brennan Middleton is the top hitter with a .298 average followed by Potkay's .255 clip.

Thursday's foe MVSU (5-38) enters the week having dropped 11 of their last 12 contests with the lone exception coming with an 11-6 win at ULM on Apr. 24. The Delta Devils have not named a starting pitcher, though potential starters based on their mid-week games last week are Trey Lacy (0-6) and Montana Killier (1-10, 6.34 ERA). German Hays is hitting a team-best .291 to lead MVSU, which is 0-5 all-time against UNO.

UNO will take a break from action following this week's trio of games due to final examinations. The Privateers will return to action on May 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Alex Box Stadium against nationally-ranked foe LSU.
