Jackson State took the first meeting 4-2 back in February. In the setback,
Darren Willis went 2-for-4 and Tuesday's starter
Kyle Arjona struck out five in three shutout innings. The right-hander allowed just one baserunner (walk). In Mobile, UNO's six-run second catapulted the Privateers to an 8-2 victory over the receiving votes Jaguars.
John Michael Stephens struck out a career-high eight batters over 6.2 innings of work and the win was the first of eight during the 10 game road trip that ended last week. Versus USA,
Beau Bratton went 4-for-5 with two doubles and
John Barr and
Reeves Martin followed Stephens' gem, limiting the Jaguars to just a walk in the final 2.1 frames.
ABOUT NEW ORLEANS
Devin Morrill led the offense last week batting .353 with five runs batted in and a pair of runs scored.
Collin Morrill (.350 BA, two doubles), Bratton (.348 BA, a homer and double) and
Pearce Howard (.333 BA, three long balls, five ribbies) turned in a good week at the dish.
Owen Magee paces the team with a .335 clip with four home runs, a triple, 10 doubles, 20 runs scored and 23 RBI. Howard is tops on the club with six homers, followed by
Cody Ducote's five.
ABOUT JACKSON STATE
The Jaguars have five batters eclipsing the .300 mark, led by Raul Hernandez's .414 with six home runs, 14 doubles, 26 runs scored and 36 RBI. Dezmond Chumley (.355), Stephan Vidal (.351), Jarvis Warne (.333), Wesley Reyes (.330) and Jesus Santana (.304) round out the list.
ABOUT SOUTH ALABAMA
The outfield pair of Dylan Hardy and Travis Swaggerty leads USA at the plate at .338 and .314, respectively. The duo combined for 11 home runs and 12 doubles.
