FRISCO, Texas –
Reeves Martin was selected to the Southland Conference All-Academic First Team on Tuesday, the conference office announced. Martin becomes the sixth Privateer student-athlete to earn conference All-Academic honors since New Orleans joined the Southland.
Martin, a human performance and health promotion major, earned a 3.25 GPA for the spring semester and his overall is a 3.01. He became the first Privateer since 2016 (Jordan Priddle) to land on the Southland All-Academic list.
On the field, Martin dominated as the closer for the Privateers. He racked up 14 saves, a new single season program record. He pitched to a 1.03 ERA and won all four decisions. Martin also became the latest Privateer to be drafted when he was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 21
st round of this June's draft.
Martin has already won the following awards for his season: First Team All-Southland, Southland Relief Pitcher of the Year, and Collegiate Baseball Third Team All-American.
In 35 innings of work this past season, Martin allowed just 18 hits and nine walks. He recorded 55 strikeouts, second most on the team during the 2019 campaign. Martin allowed just four runs for the entire season.
During the year, Martin also broke the career saves and appearances program records. His single season record breaking 14
th save came on May 12 against HBU.
Corey Gaconi of Southeastern was named the Student-Athlete of the Year.
