Privateers Finish Golfweek Fall Challenge 9-Under Par

FINAL RESULTS (GolfStat) | DAY ONE RECAP | DAY TWO RECAP

NEW ORLEANS – For the second consecutive time the University of New Orleans Golf team put up a strong outing at the Golfweek Fall Challenge. The Privateers finished the opening tournament of 2023-2024 campaign at 9-under-par with a score of 855.

One day after carding a career-low 67 during the second round, junior Kyle Bennett finished his three rounds at 211 strokes – a new 54-hole career-low for the Zachary native. Bennett finished tied for 25th with four others.

Undeterred by a rough opening pair of rounds senior Ryan Fulton put up a 67 during round three, moving 18 spots up the leaderboard to finish tied for 58th.  Ryan made seven birdies on Tuesday afternoon, and it was the second time in his career Fulton had put up a round of 67. Fulton was just one stroke shy of his career low which was set in the first round of last season's Big Texan.

The Crawley native finished with an average of 2.67 on par-3 holes – tied with Washington State's Sam Renner for the best in the field.

Mason Roberts and Maximilian Wojciechowski both finished with double-digit birdies – ten each – to lead UNO. Wojciechowski finished tied for 54th with a score of 216 – a new career-low over three rounds, while Roberts finished tied for 69th with a score of 221.

Wojciechowski's third round score of 69 matched his career low as a Privateer. Tuesday marked the first time a pair of Privateers have shot under 70 in the same round since Brady Bennett and Grayson Gilbert accomplished the feat during the second round of the 2021 Grover Page Classic.

George Trappey finished his collegiate debut tied for 61st after rounds of 71, 76, and 72 for a total score of 219. Trappey made 39 pars, seven birdies and his first career eagle over 54-holes at True Blue Golf Club.

New Orleans placed 12th overall in the highly competitive field. The Privateers led the field in pars made with 183. New Orleans' score of 855 was the second lowest 54-hole score since 2009 only surpassed by their 853 at the 2021 Golfweek Fall Challenge. Their third round score of 282 was the lowest single round score since the team shot 277 during the third round of the 2021 Golfweek Fall Challenge as well.

Loyola Marymount finished in first place with a score of 817 – 47 strokes under par, and one stroke ahead of Washington State. Washington State's Pono Yanagi finished tied for first place with Arkansas State's Thomas Schmidt at 17-under-par for the individual championship.

HEAD COACH JEFF LORIO
"We had a solid round today especially from the back end of the lineup. We need to work on getting four and five guys putting up solid rounds together.  I really believe when that happens, we will have a very competitive squad. I was a little disappointed with the finish position but overall, it was a good first event and we will be better because of this next week."
