NEW ORLEANS – University of New Orleans track and field student-athletes set four combined personal bests between their efforts at the Maroon and White Invite and Texas Invitational on Friday.
MAROON AND WHITE INVITE | FRIDAY RESULTS
Briana Bell secured second place in the women's hammer throw with the second-longest throw of her career at 48.19 meters. She achieved this feat on both her first and third throws.
Christina Davis set a new personal best by more than three meters with a throw of 39.29 meters in her final discus attempt on Friday morning.
For the second time in three weeks,
Quinton Collins set a new personal best in the men's high jump by clearing 1.90 meters. Collins successfully cleared three heights on Friday - 1.8 meters, 1.85 meters, and 1.90 meters before narrowly failing to clear 1.95 meters in three attempts.
For the second consecutive week,
Kelton Brookins achieved a new personal best in the 400-meter hurdles. Last week at LSU's Alumni Gold, he finished in 55.87 seconds. This week, he was 0.26 seconds faster, finishing in fourth-place finish with a time of 55.61 seconds.
There were two firsts for the UNO distance squad on Friday as well.
Evan Pardo ran the first 800 meter race of his college career, finishing in 2:05.99.
Irene Bonanomi completed the first outdoor 5000 meter race of her career, finishing in 18:49.47. She had previously run that distance during cross country season.
Helen Baumgarten and Davis will get things started tomorrow in Starkville for the Privateers with the women's shot put scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
TEXAS INVITATIONAL | FRIDAY RESULTS
Christopher Murphy appeared to break Michael Strong's school record in the men's long jump with a jump of 7.49 meters on Friday morning in Austin but the jump was nullified* due to a 2.7 wind rating. Had the jump stood he would have passed Strong's record of 7.46 meters set in the 2019 Leon Johnson Invitational. Murphy's other jumps of 7.43, and 7.40 were also nullified by wind speeds of 4.2, and 3.7.
Trinity Bracey ran 24.43 in the women's 200, tying Pricilla Chapu for the 10th fastest outdoor 200 in school history. Bracey's time would rank sixth on UNO's performance list if she were not already second on that list.
Murphy,
John Adesola,
Darryl George Jr., and
Madonna Favour will be the first to represent New Orleans tomorrow in Austin when they run in their second 4x100 meter relay at Mike A. Myers Stadium this season. The foursome set a new school record with a third-place finish at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in March. Their race is set to start at
2:05 p.m.
* Long jump marks with wind speeds greater than 2.0 count for meet placement but do not count for NCAA records, seeding, or school records.
