FRISCO, Texas –
Matt Gonzalez won Southland Hitter of the Week after a tremendous weekend leading an offense that put up 40 runs in a series sweep against the UIW Cardinals.
Gonzalez went 10-for-16 with three home runs, three doubles and 11 RBI. The senior catcher began his week with a five-hit game on Friday against UIW. It was the first five-hit game by a Privateer since 2019. He also hit his first of two grand slams that day as the Privateers put up a season-high 18 runs.
The next day, Gonzalez followed with two doubles as he went 2-for-4 at the plate while the Privateers secured the series with a 10-7 victory.
In the series finale, Gonzalez became the fourth Privateer this season to have two homers in a game joining
Jahlani Rogers,
Bryce Calloway and
Tristan Moore. Gonzalez went 3-for-6 and drove in five runs.
Dating back to 2023, the Privateers have earned Southland Hitter of the Week eight times.
The Privateers will face LSU on Tuesday before hosting Northwestern State this weekend.
