South Texas Match Play Awaits Privateers

NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans golf team will participate in its first match play event since 2023 when it plays in the South Texas Match Play in McAllen,Texas on Monday and Tuesday.

It will be just the second match play event in the last three decades for New Orleans, and the first since going unbeaten at the 2023 Grand Bear Match Play.

Of the Privateers on the trip, only Matt Weber and Max Feistmantl have collegiate match play experience. Weber went 0-2 in the 2023 Sun Belt Championships, with a 7&5 loss in the semifinals to South Alabama's Jack Hearn and a 3&2 loss to Georgia Southern's Ben Carr in the finals.

Feistmantl played against the Privateers for Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns and lost 2&1 to Canon Clark at Grand Bear Match Play.

FORMAT
A bracket featuring Abilene Christian, Texas A&M-Commerce, Nicholls, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Incarnate Word, New Orleans and Texas-Rio Grande Valley has been set up. The Privateers will begin with a match against Abilene Christian on Monday morning, with the winner facing the winner of Stephen F. Austin and Southeastern Louisiana on Monday afternoon.

The losers of those two matches also will face each other on Monday afternoon. Everyone also will play a third match on Tuesday

The individual pairings will be decided tonight (Sunday) at draft style pairings party at 9:00 p.m. Taylor Boasberg, Max Feistmantl, Britton Khalaf, Garrett Trahan, and Weber are in the draft for the Privateers.

LAST TIME ON THE COURSE
For the first time in school history the Privateers played an A and B squad at this season's Gulf Coast Collegiate. The B team finished seventh with a score of 889, while the A team finished tied for 11^th. Taylor Boasberg led all Privateers with a 14^th place finish and a score of 218. Jude Bourque and Britton Khalaf both had eagles for the Privateers.
