HOUSTON – New Orleans' three-game winning streak came to an end with a pair of losses at Cougar Field on Friday as the Privateers fell 10-0 to Baylor in the afternoon before dropping a 13-3 contest to host Houston.

Recaps of both contests are available below. Next for UNO is a single game on Saturday against BU with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. Live stats and audio can be accessed via the BaylorBears.com web site.

HOUSTON 13-3 NEW ORLEANS

In the nightcap, UH (14-4) took advantage of a six-run first inning to dispatch UNO (3-16).

The Privateers moved ahead briefly when Chaz Boyer led off the game with a double before scoring on a Zacary Hawkins single. The Cougars responded in their trip to the plate, collecting six runs on five hits in the bottom of the frame.

UH's first inning production chased UNO starter Blake Prest (0-4) after he conceded five runs – all earned – on three hits while just retiring two of the Cougars he faced.

The Privateers added a run in the second when Reese Kanter scored on a Trevor McCarthy sacrifice fly. UNO tallied its final score in the sixth when Seth Laigast singled in Hawkins, who doubled at the onset of the frame.

In between Privateer scores, UH added a single run in the fourth and fifth. The Cougars continued their run-scoring streak with a tally in the sixth and four more in the seventh to take a 13-3 lead.

UH right-handed pitcher Daniel Poncedeleon (2-2) exited after six innings, yielding three runs on eight hits before turning the ball over to the bullpen which held UNO from scoring again.

The Privateers were led at the plate by Hawkins and Kanter. Hawkins was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI while Kanter posted two hits in four at-bats with a run scored.

Across the diamond, the Cougars receive multi-hit games from six different players, including the top four batters in the team's lineup. Clean-up hitter Justin Montemayor paced UH with four hits in six at-bats with two runs and two RBIs. Caleb Barker led all players with four RBIs.

BAYLOR 10-0 NEW ORLEANS

BU (8-10) received a solid performance from starting pitcher Dillon Newman (3-0) to defeat UNO in the day's first game.  Newman (3-0) held the Privateers to a Kanter single in the second inning before retiring the final 16 batters he faced.

Newman's gem enabled the Bears to become the first team to limit the Privateers to less than five runs in a contest in six games.

BU stranded four runners in the first three innings before finally capitalizing offensively against the Privateers. The Bears struck for a single run in the fourth before taking advantage of a throwing error and a pair of wild pitches to plate four runs in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.

A Jake Miller home run in sixth made it 6-0 in favor of BU before the Bears closed the game with four runs in the seventh inning. Grayson Porter was 3-for-4 with two runs and a pair of RBIs to lead the Bears, a performance that included a two-run blast to left center in the fifth.

UNO starter Stone Speer (1-4) took the loss.  The Privateer left-handed pitcher exited after six innings, allowing nine runs – eight earned – while striking out three.

NOTES
