NEW ORLEANS - Weather halted action between the University of New Orleans and University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis teams on Monday afternoon at the University Tennis Center with the squads deadlocked in a 2-2 tie.
The finished singles' and doubles' matches will count towards the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, but there will be no official team result accredited to either institution.
UNO had success early, claiming the doubles' point by winning both completed matches.
Hossam Meligy and
Ricardo Campos won their seventh straight match by defeating Beau Bernstein and Chetan Panditi by an 8-4 score at the No. 1 court.
Vinay Kamineni and
David Malmgren also picked up a victory, edging Ricardo Hopker and Sebastien Job 8-5 at the No. 2 position.
In singles' play, the tide had turned with Bernstein and Hopker picking up wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 courts, respectively. Meligy put the Privateers on the board with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Panditi at the No. 3 position before play was called.
In the matches that were underway when the rain storm came through, UNO led at 2 of 3 courts. Malmgren and
Yoshikazu Ysa won the first set at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively. UTPA was ahead at the sixth court where
Dominik Kardell was representing the Privateer cause.
UNO's next match will occur at home on Mar. 24 against William Carey at 10 a.m. followed by a dual against Auburn-Montgomery the next day, also at 10 a.m.
