UNO Tennis Trip Continues with Wins Over Eckerd

Privateers Continue Florida Swing at Rollins on Tuesday

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The University of New Orleans men's and women's tennis teams rolled to victories over Eckerd College late Monday afternoon.
 
The UNO men (8-5) claimed a 9-0 win over EC (0-14) with the Privateer women (9-4) picking up an 8-1 result against the Tritons (3-12).
 
In the dual between the men's programs, the biggest threat came at the No. 1 doubles' position where Ricardo Campos and Hossam Meligy got past the EC duo of Dylan Randazzo and Stephen Felman 9-7.
 
Dominik Kardell and Daniel Populus won 8-4 at the No. 2 position with Vinay Kamineni and David Malmgren making it a clean sweep with an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 court.
 
In singles' play, the Privateers won each match in straight sets, including Populus, who won for just the second time in nine matches during the 2011-12 season. Populus defeated Triton opponent Jesus Silva 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 6 court.
 
In the women's dual, UNO (9-4) continued to flex its muscle in doubles' play against Eckerd (3-12).
 
Marta Sans and Manuela Gomez won 8-0 at the No. 1 court for the Privateers, who cruised to victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Fanny Benincasa and Juliet Labarthe won 8-3 at No. 2 with Kristina Martic and Sofija Karalic picking up an 8-4 victory at No. 2.
 
Five of the six singles' matches ended in UNO's favor in straight sets. The victories included a fifth straight win for Andrea Martin, who prevailed 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 6 court against Katie Benn.
 
Both UNO teams will be in action on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. when they face Rollins College. Rollins is ranked No. 6 on the men's side with its women's program at No. 12.
